Balint Society Cardiff Training Day
The power of storytelling within the Balint framework
"A story has no beginning or end: arbitrarily one chooses that moment of experience from which to look back or from which to look ahead.”
― Graham Greene, The End of the Affair
We are delighted to invite you to our Balint Training day in Cardiff, an opportunity for individuals on the pathway to Balint accreditation as well as those keen to experience Balint groups for the first time.
This training will explore the power of storytelling within the Balint framework, offering participants the chance to reflect on how narratives shape our understanding of the clinician-patient relationship. Through shared stories, we uncover deeper meanings, emotions, and relational dynamics—enhancing both our professional growth and patient care.
We are honoured to welcome two special guests who will bring storytelling to life in different ways:
- Dr Julia Lewis, a psychiatrist and actor, will share her experiences of integrating Balint, drama, and storytelling in clinical practice, offering insights into how performance and narrative techniques can deepen the reflective process.
- Tamar Williams, a renowned Welsh storyteller, will perform "The Physician of Myddfai", a well-known piece of Welsh folklore, demonstrating the enduring power of traditional narratives in shaping our understanding of medicine, healing, and human connection.
The day will be facilitated by experienced Balint leaders from Wales and beyond, guiding participants through group work, discussion, and reflective practice. Whether you are looking to develop confidence as a Balint leader or simply wish to immerse yourself in this rich, narrative-based approach, this training provides a supportive and engaging space to do so.
The event fee includes lunch.
We welcome all interested colleagues to join us in Cardiff for this insightful and thought-provoking experience.
