You are invited to come to our London study day and 48th Balint Society Annual Dinner. The study day will be of interest to Balint group leaders and supervisors, and those who are setting up new Balint groups. It will be followed by the 48th Balint Society Annual Dinner.

The Study Day is now full.  There are still a few places available for the Annual Dinner.  Please contact event@balint.co.uk if you would like to go on a waiting list for the Study Day to be notified if we receive any cancellations.

Study Day

The study day will be an opportunity to hear about schemes which have been successful in setting up Balint groups in different contexts, and to share experiences of setting up Balint groups and keeping them going. Groups may be robust, or they may waiver under pressures of time commitment, funding, variable institutional support and so on. Many groups are regularly ‘renewed’ with new members, particularly in the hospital setting, and this can be challenging.  We will have an opportunity to consider what helps leaders to withstand the ups and down, including the role of supervision. Come along to share your own experiences, the successes and challenges, with others.

Delegates are invited to choose one of the following workshops when they register for the study day:

Workshop 1  General Practice / Primary Care

Balint groups with GPs, other Primary Care professional groups eg GP only group, Health Visitor only group, mixed group including GPs counsellors and others

Workshop 2  Trusts and Institutions

Balint groups in trusts and institutional settings eg psychiatry and GP trainees, foundation doctors, medical students, head teachers

Workshop 3  Balint in Teams

Balint groups within teams eg  Primary health care team, inpatient mental health team, special care baby unit team

Annual Dinner

The Dinner is a social event open to both members and non-members and their guests. The speaker will be Prof. Helen Stokes- Lampard, Chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners Council. It will also be an occasion to celebrate new Balint leaders and a special invite goes to those who have become newly accredited during 2017-2018.  There will be an opportunity to see some film from the Michael Balint archive before the Balint Society dinner. Partners and friends are welcome at the dinner.

Cancellation Policy

The Balint Society tries to make events cost neutral, so our cancellation policy aims to ensure that we cover our costs, but no more.  Cancellation requests should be submitted in writing to Balint Events.

Where no venue costs are incurred by the Society, the fee paid minus the Balint Society Administration charge of £25.00 will be refunded.  For payments made by bank transfer, the bank account name and number must be included with the cancellation request so that the refund can be arranged.

Where venue costs attributable to a delegate are incurred, this amount plus the Balint Society Administration charge of £25.00 will be deducted from the fee paid before a refund is issued. For very late cancellations, this may mean that no refund is possible as the Society will be committed to pay the venue.

In the case of payment by Trusts, an alternative delegate may be sent to the event free of charge.

Please note that when a delegate does not attend, no refund can be issued.

In the circumstance that the event has to be cancelled by us, the Balint Society will provide a full refund to delegates.

Occasionally it is necessary to make late changes to an event programme and the Society reserves the right to do this.
