Overview
The Balint Society is a registered Charity so requires a group of people to act as Trustees. Trustees are volunteers whose role is to ensure that our charitable purposes are fulfilled and that we follow the guidance and regulations of the Charity Commission (you can see our Charity Commission entry here)
Our Trustee body is called Council and consists of five Officer posts (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Journal Editor), five Ordinary Members and two Co-opted Members for specific areas of interest.
The Secretary, Treasurer and Journal Editor may serve indefinitely but the Vice-President and President for 3 years only. In recent years the President’s role has been shared between two Officers. Ordinary members usually serve for 3 years, though may be re-elected if they are willing to stand again for a further 3 years.
What does being on Council involve?
Most of Council’s time is spent thinking about the Society‘s current activities and how we can develop these effectively and shape the Society in the future. The most important aspect of Council membership is a commitment to the promotion of Balint work.
Meetings occur every three months, usually online. These last about 90 minutes and there may be some tasks to think about or to work on or achieve in between times. There are a number of subcommittees where members work with others on specific areas such as student engagement, 'doctors in training' GP engagement, accreditation and Balint leadership. All committees have a chair and required to report back to Council on a regular basis.
If you would like to become involved in the work of Council please contact the Secretary via the Contact Us menu above.
